Klênio Barros holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology, with research funded by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes/Brazil), and a Master's degree in Music, with an emphasis on Musical Performance, both from the University of Aveiro (Portugal). He holds a bachelor's and postgraduate degree in Music from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN-Brazil), with a specialisation in 20th and 21st Century Interpretive Practices. He is currently completing a Master's degree in Music Education in Primary Education at the School of Education (ESE) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP-Portugal). He is a researcher at the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Centre for Studies in Music and Dance (INET-md) and at the Centre for Research in Music Psychology and Music Education (CIPEM), at the ESE of the IPP. In Brazil, he works as a collaborating researcher at the Ethnomusicology Laboratory of the Federal University of Pará (LABETNO), and is a member of the scientific committee for the Amazonian Ethnomusicology Conference and Colloquium. He has extensive experience in the field of Arts and Creative Expressions, working as a performer in recreational spaces and as a music teacher in various institutional settings in Brazil and Portugal. In higher education, he served as a visiting professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN/Brazil) for a two-year academic period (2010-2012). In Portugal, he worked as a music teacher in primary and lower secondary education at the Ílhavo School Group and the Garcia de Orta School Group (Foz/Porto). He has published and presented academic work in the areas of music education, ethnomusicology, popular music studies and musical performance at national and international events. In addition, he is co-author of the book "Sonoridades Pedagógicas" (Pedagogical Sounds) and a member of the research group "Educação, Música e Teatro na Comunidade" (Education, Music and Theatre in the Community), supporting action research projects developed at INET-md | CIPEM. His main areas of interest in action and research include the development of social intervention projects with socially vulnerable communities, using artistic practices and academic knowledge to directly benefit the communities involved. In 2025, he received support from the Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) for the development of the project "Sons com sabor de casa" (Sounds with a taste of home), together with communities of immigrant and refugee musicians in Portugal.
