Anabela Rato is an Assistant Professor and the Associate Chair of Portuguese Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Toronto. She is also the Chair of the Canadian Association of Teachers of Portuguese (CATPor). Her research focuses on Second Language and Heritage Speech Acquisition, leading projects funded by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the UofT. ). She holds an MA in English Language, Literature and Culture and a Ph.D. in Language Sciences, from the University of Minho, Portugal. Her research interests include Heritage Language Speech Acquisition, Second Language Speech Learning, and Experimental Phonetics.
