From 2014 to 2017 she completed her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, at the University of Minho. At the end of that year, she was integrated as a Research Trainee at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) in a project to explore the relevance of adult hippocampal cytogenesis (neurogenesis and gliogenesis) in rat behavior and the function of female hormones in the context of depression (Cell Proliferation, doi: 10.1111/cpr.13165). After this period, in 2018, she enrolled in the ICVS/School of Medicine Master's degree in Health Sciences, with specialization in neurosciences. Her master's project was dedicated to unveil how adult cytogenesis impacts brain activity, in the context of mood disorders. In fact, during her master thesis, she explored the role of glial restricted precursor (GRP) cells, when transplanted into the brain dorsal dentate gyrus of the hippocampi, in a rodent model of cytogenesis impairments (GFAP-tk), a work whose results were recently accepted for publication in Molecular Psychiatry. In this regard, this work is one of the first to demonstrate a valuable and specific contribution of glial progenitors to accelerate not only the regulation of gliogenic levels, but also the rescue of neurogenesis, and importantly, the recovery of behavioral deficits intrinsic to mood disorders, such as depression. In addition, she has also been involved in multiple research teams/projects successfully funded, which have been creating a strong impact in the field of neuroscience, from which she was able to publish a total of nine papers in peer-reviewed journals (Molecular Psychiatry, Cell Proliferation, Antioxidants, Cells, Glia, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology), four of them as first-author (two literature reviews and two results papers) in important journals of the respective fields, presenting a total accumulated impact factor of 74.952 (IF= 8.328/paper). To complement her publication record, she was invited to be guest editor of a special methods collection at JoVE (https://www.jove.com/methods-collections/809). Since early on, she has been involved in projects outside academia, working at a University of Minho start-up company "BnML" as a research associate, and then as a full-time project manager, getting in contact with clients and presenting the work developed under BnML context in conferences from the biotechnology/biomedicine field. During this period, she was also able to participate in the development and validation of an automated stress equipment, to be used for preclinical research, among neuroscience fields, which led to her first results paper (Cells, doi: 10.3390/cells12030381). Importantly, she supervised three students, one in the context of a bachelor's scientific project and two in the context of BnML's summer Internships. In addition to several other courses (Management and Bio-Entrepreneurship, Clinical Trials and Animal Models Experiments' certifications, Data Analysis and Business Intelligence), since 2021 up to 2023, she worked as a tax consultant, in funding advisory for R&D, innovation and sustainability incentives at Ernst & Young (EY). Specifically, it is important to highlight that this experience provided her skills on advisory services, regarding the application of R&D projects from consortia including academic and non-academic institutions to European Commission calls, as well as to fiscal and financial incentives from the Portuguese government. In July 2023, she won a PhD scholarship from FCT "2023.00893.BDANA", in the non-academic context, where she is currently developing her PhD project entitled "Does adult hippocampal gliogenesis modulate non-motor symptoms of PD? Understanding the role of newly-born glial cells in PD progression.".
