Jorge Proença, born in 1987 in Coimbra, became interested in technology from the age of seven when he had his first computer, an Intel 80286 based computer. At the age of 11, he took a general course on informatics. Later, he started his studies in information technology when in his secondary studies, at the age of 15. Here, he started learning about programming (Pascal and C) and other topics, such as database development. In 2006, he entered the Institute of Engineering or the Polytechnical Institute of Coimbra (ISEC), where he enrolled in a three-year B.Sc. in Informatics Engineering. In 2010, he enrolled in the Informatics Engineering M.Sc. at the University of Coimbra. He finished his M.Sc. with the defence of his thesis, integrated in the FP7 CockpitCI project, entitled Laboratório de Segurança para Redes de Controlo Industrial (September 2012), where he designed and implemented a cybersecurity testbed to support the project. He holds a Ph.D in Informatics Engineering at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra. His work is entitled Applications of Network and System Virtualization in Multiservice Context. In parallel, he has actively participated in several research projects in the areas of broadband networking and critical infrastructure protection. In this department, he was also an invited teachiing assistant between 2022 and 2025. He currently works as an R&D project manager at OneSource.
