Since September 2024, Christian Wilke has been serving as an Assistant Professor at the German Department within the Department of Languages and Cultures (DLC) at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He is a research member of the university’s Languages, Literatures and Cultures Research Centre (CLLC), where his current research focuses on the history of reading as well as literature and social inequality. Wilke completed his studies in German Studies and Sociology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2005–2011). From 2012 to 2015, he was a research fellow at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (Giessen University). In 2018, he earned his Ph.D. in German Studies at Giessen University with a dissertation, later published in 2020, titled Paradoxie und Konsens: Praktiken antikonsensualer Rede in Rhetorik und Philosophie der Antike, Frühen Neuzeit und Moderne (“Paradox and Consensus: Practices of Anti-Consensus Speech in Rhetoric and Philosophy from Antiquity to Modernity”). His scholarly contributions also include research on the reception of antiquity in 18th-century literary criticism and history, as well as the implicit knowledge involved in academic writing. From 2019 to 2024, Wilke pursued a career as an academic librarian after completing his librarian traineeship in Mannheim and Munich (2017-2019). He worked at the university libraries of Augsburg (2019-2020) and Mainz (2020-2024), where he was responsible for German Studies and Social Sciences. Additionally, he delivered information literacy training to both students and faculty, and managed the Mainz University's branch library for Translation, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies.
