Ana Isabel Oliveira Machado have a PhD in River Restoration and Management (FLUVIO) completed at 14/01/2020 by the Institute of Agronomy, Lisbon University. Her academic background is on Environmental Engineering having a Bachelor and Master degree in the subject by Aveiro University. Is currently the Director of Research and Development in the company Ibero Massa Florestal, S.A.. Her main responsibilities are related with scientific projects management, biochar development and quality assessment. Prior to her current position she was a grant holder of the project LIFE-REFOREST in Aveiro University, working in soil loss and fertility prevention after wildfires, through the application of a mycotechnosols strategy. Her main task in the project was field and laboratory management, leading the soil and eroded sediments physicochemical analysis. Along her research academic career, she published 11 articles in scientific journals, being 5 as first author and 6 as co-author. Co-supervised 3 work(s) of course completion of BSc and 1 of MSc level. Prior to her PhD, she participated through a master grant in 2 projects on the area of environmental sciences with emphasis on forest ecosystems. Nutrient losses by runoff and soil fertility where the main topics of the work elaborated along the 3 years of the different master grants. Her PhD had as title: Removal of pharmaceutical active compounds by constructed wetland systems ¿ a sustainable phytoremediation technique?. It target the use of nature-based solutions for pollution mitigation, through the elimination of pharmaceutical active compounds from water applying phytoextraction and materials with high adsorption capacity strategies. Her main key research topics are: Environmental pollution; Nature based solution for pollution remediation; Soil fertility; Biochar; Phytoremediation; Materials adsorption studies; Soil erosion; Soil nutrient stocks; Erosion mitigation treatments; Nutrients water analyses; Soil physicochemical analyses; Wildfire effects.
