Yu Yang, a lecturer, earned a Bachelor of Arts in art design from Jiangnan University in China (2010), a Master of Arts in visual arts from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in Italy (2018), and a PhD in Art Studies at the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Fine Arts (10 Jan. 2023. Final mark obtained: “Approved with Distinction”). During his doctoral studies, he focused on explaining the ambiguity of character identities in complex narrative films. His research on the narrative techniques and strategies of puzzle films led to breakthroughs and the publication of several theoretical articles in international journals. He also has a keen interest in cultural studies, as evidenced by his comparative research papers on Chinese culture presented at academic conferences in his spare time. He is also translating a collection of English papers published by the Faculty of Literature of the University of Lisbon into Chinese. The main focus of this collection is on immigrant culture between Portugal and the Americas, including topics such as race, migration, and equality as portrayed in film. Furthermore, he is studying how other writers and artists use Fernando Pessoa's "heteronyms" in literary and artistic narratives.
