Margarida Sacramento completed the MSc in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology in 2019, from the University of Aveiro (UA), and graduated in Biotechnology (2017) from the same Institution. Currently, she is a research fellow at the Compass group (CICECO Institute, Aveiro), under the BLUEGLUE project, working on the chemical modification of marine-based biopolymers, in order to develop adhesive biomaterials for biomedical applications. To get her master's degree, she did an internship at The Navigator Company, namely in the Forest and Paper Research Institute (RAIZ). There, she was responsible for starting up a new Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyser and also for studying the TOC/COD (chemical oxygen demand) ratio for wastewater samples from the Pulp and Paper Industry. Previously, her final bachelor project was conducted at NanoLAB (UA) where she worked with magnetic nanoparticles prepared from biopolymers of marine origin, to remove drugs from the water. With this work, she published her first paper and oral communication.

2017/11/06 - 2017/11/08 ISBMS - an international workshop on “Enabling Chemical and Design Tools for Natural Biomaterials Development”, in which 12 Plenary Lectures were given by world-renowned scientists known for their expertise in chemistry, materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, bioengineering and biomaterials. ISBMS also encompassed a Marine Biotechnology session highlighting key contributions of the marine environment and marine biomaterials as high-added value materials for addressing societal challenges, including human health.
