Holding dual degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine, he earned his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Porto in 2010. Following his PhD, he undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the i3S-Institute for Research & Innovation in Health, where his groundbreaking research provided significant insights into the role of endocannabinoids in endometrial stromal cell remodeling during early pregnancy, paving the way for innovative approaches to explore the complex interplay between endocannabinoids and female reproductive health. In 2015, he joined UCIBIO as a Research Fellow, where he has continued to make pivotal contributions to the field. His research investigates the complex relationships between infertility, inflammation, and oxidative stress, with a particular focus on identifying inflammatory biomarkers linked to low reproductive potential and aging in women. His discoveries are crucial for developing new strategies to enhance female reproductive health. His research is currently focused on examining the effects of novel lipid mediators on endometrial remodeling and pregnancy-related complications. He is also investigating the role of cannabinoids in health and disease, particularly their interactions with ovarian steroid hormones. With over 75 publications in renowned international journals, he is a respected leader in his field. He is regularly invited to speak at prominent national and international conferences, further establishing his reputation in female reproductive health and emerging lipid mediators.
