Ana Beatriz Vieira is a PhD student in Computer Science, under the supervision of Arlindo Oliveira and Jaime Cardoso. She has a background in Electrical and Computer Engineering, which provides her with a strong foundation for conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of engineering, artificial intelligence, and biomedical applications. Her research focuses on the application of deep learning techniques to histology images, with the goal of supporting various stages of the oncology process. In particular, she studies methods for detecting histological fragments — contributing to quality control in digital pathology laboratories — and for detecting cells, enabling the assessment of treatment response and the understanding of cancer progression. Her work leverages object detection models, computer vision models, and foundation models, aiming to develop robust and generalizable solutions for the automated analysis of biomedical images.

Activity description
Role
Institution / Organization
2019 - 2021 TSB – Técnico Solar Boat is a university team from Instituto Superior Técnico dedicated to the development of solar-powered vessels. I was part of the Management and Marketing team and, later, of the Electrical Systems team, where I was directly involved in the development and operation of the solar panels used in the prototypes. Being part of TSB provided me with strong experience in teamwork, solving complex problems, and applying engineering knowledge in real and competitive settings.
