Alexandra Gouveia (AG) is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine from University of Porto (FMUP) and performs scientific research integrated in the group "Aging and Stress" at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação (I3S) as an independent researcher. Alexandra Gouveia research has focused on the anti-obesity properties of the neuropeptides melanocortins, by the regulation of white adipose tissue lipolysis, re-esterification and “browning” mechanisms. Adipose tissue remodeling, inflammatory profile and interaction/ crossalk with other tissues and tumour cells is also relevant and of research interest. AG graduated in Biochemistry in Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar-University of Porto in 1997 and completed her PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from the same institution in 2003 (grant Praxis XXI BD/20043/99). During 2004-2008 AG performed her post-doctoral training, as an FCT fellowship (grants SFRH/BPD/17778/2004 and SFRH/BPD/34280/2006,) at FMUP. AG published 34 papers in international peer review journals with an accumulated impact factor of 146 and with almost 1000 citations (h-index in Scopus of 17). Competitive funding was obtained from the Portuguese Science Foundation (EXPL/MED-ONC/1001/2021, PTDC/BIM-MET/2123/2014), Tanita Healthy Weight Community Grant-in-aid Program and Portuguese Society for Endocrinology and Metabolism/ABBOTT. AG was awarded by the “Programa Gulbenkian de Estímulo à Investigação 2005”. AG supervised the thesis of 10 students (4 PhD, 10 master). Scientific data have been frequently presented in national and international meetings as oral communications (34) or poster (73) and their abstracts (26) were published in indexed journals. Thirteen were awarded as best presentations. Her peer review activity includes journals as Science and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.
