Ana Maria Capela is a PhD student in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Aveiro, supported by an individual PhD fellowship awarded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). She earned her MSc in Molecular Biomedicine in 2022 and her BSc in Biotechnology in 2020, both from the University of Aveiro. Alongside her PhD, AMC serves as a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Tutor for two Biomedical Sciences BSc courses and mentors medical students in another curricular unit. Her research interests include oncology, DNA damage repair, regenerative medicine, and non-coding RNAs. Her master’s thesis focused on the role of the long non-coding RNA NORAD in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and its resistance to chemotherapy, under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Jesus (iBiMED) and Dr. Bruno Pereira (i3S). She has contributed to two FCT-funded research projects and one project funded by the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC), and was previously awarded a Research Initiation Scholarship. AMC has published two review articles and one original research paper in international journals, and has presented four scientific posters. She was an invited speaker at the round table "À conversa com os cientistas | Talking with the Scientists", part of a public cancer awareness event, where she also exhibited a scientific microscopy image. Additionally, she was a guest lecturer for the course "Noções Básicas e Aplicadas de Bioinformática" at UNESP.
