Gil Castro began his scientific career at the Center for Experimental Cytology, University of Porto (1988 – 1994), where he did is PhD. As a postdoctoral researcher he moved to DNAX Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA,USA (1995 – 1998). He then moved to the Gulbenkian Institute for Science (1998 – 2000) to gain knowledge on molecular biology. He then moved to the Institute for Life and Health Sciences, University of Minho (2002 – present). This allowed him to focus his investigation on the immunological mechanism underlying protective/pathologic immune responses to M. tuberculosis. He has published 90 articles in specialized journals. He has received 10 awards and/or honors. He participates and/or participated in 11 projects, 5 of which as a principal investigator. He has already trained more than 30 students between masters and doctoral students.
