Iracema de Andrade is a musician and researcher specialized in Performance Practice, Historical Musicology, and Artistic Research, with a particular focus on electroacoustic music. She holds a PhD cum laude in Music Performance (Violoncello) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she was awarded the “Alfonso Caso” Medal for Academic Merit. She completed a Master’s degree at the University of West London and obtained both the Fellowship Diploma and the Certificate of Advanced Studies from the London College of Music. In Brazil, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of São Paulo. Since 2015, she has served as an Associate Researcher at the National Center for Music Research, Documentation, and Information “Carlos Chávez”, where she coordinates the seminar Music, Body, and Thought: Artistic Research and the Practice of Contemporary Performance, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Music Program of UNAM. She is the recipient of the 2024 First Prize for Academic Performance in Research from the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) and a member of the National System of Art Creators, both under the Mexican Ministry of Culture. Her work integrates artistic creation, performance, and critical research, and she has been regularly invited to participate in evaluation panels, academic juries, and expert roundtables in Mexico and abroad. She has authored peer-reviewed publications and secured competitive institutional funding to support artistic-research projects at the intersection of gender, embodiment, and digital technologies. In 2025, she participated in major international forums, including the Electroacoustic Music Studies Conference in Paris, France (Sorbonne University/Gustave Eiffel University); the XI Research in Art Conference at the University of Costa Rica; the Digital Projects Forum – Collaborative Platforms: Expanding Digital Territories at the Centro Nacional de las Artes (Mexico); and the 16th SAR International Conference on Artistic Research, hosted by the University of Porto (Portugal). She was also invited to present her work by the Laboratory for Sound Creation and Artistic Interaction at the Universidade Federal do Paraná (Brazil). Her earlier international participations include the Electroacoustic Music Studies Network Conference (Mexico, 2019); the 8th International Conference on the Histories of Media Arts (Aalborg University, Denmark, 2019); Musicology Applied to the Concert: Studies on Performance in Action (International University of Andalucía, Spain, 2016); the Women in Music International Symposium (University of Costa Rica, 2020 and 2022); and Journées d’Étude: Soixante Ans de Musiques Mixtes (Sorbonne University, France, 2013). She has delivered invited lectures and workshops at institutions in Spain, Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil, including ESMUC (Barcelona), Concordia University (Montreal), the University of New Mexico, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. De Andrade serves on the Advisory Council and acts as a peer reviewer for the journals Vórtex, Música Hodie, and Sonus Litterarum. She currently supervises doctoral research in the Postgraduate Music Program at UNAM and in the Doctoral Program in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Interdisciplinarity at INBAL. She is also a member of the International Musicological Society and the Society for Artistic Research. As a cellist, she has performed extensively in Mexico, Brazil, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Cuba, and Scotland. Her solo discography includes Electro-Acústico (2010, which received two Latin Grammy nominations in 2011), Electroacoustic Voices (2014), and Aleaciones (2020).
