Eduardo Marques is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. He carries out hist research at the Advanced Joining Processes Unit (AJPU), one of INEGI's research units. He obtained his PhD at the University of Porto by studying the performance of adhesive joints for use in aerospace applications, optimising their design to withstand impact conditions and large thermal differentials. He has published 178 Scopus indexed papers as an author and his works have been cited 2875 times corresponding to an h-index of 30 (14/12/2023). He has published 8 books and 13 book chapters. Throughout his academic and scientific work, he has gained extensive expertise in dynamic behaviour of composite and metallic structures, analysed with experimental and numerical approaches. He has developed and patented new composite materials suitable for impact absorption, combining composites with highly dissimilar mechanical behaviour. Furthermore, he has also explored the use of natural materials, such as cork to improve the performance of bonded materials and the use of functionally graded materials to improve impact absorption capabilities. He has served as the principal investigator of a project funded by FCT with the aim of developing advanced methodologies for the design of structural connections for the automotive industry, leading to highly innovative characterization processes for materials and joints under impact loads and is leading a consortium of industries developing a novel methodology to characterize adhesives. He is highly committed to scientific dissemination activities, being involved in the organisation of conferences on materials and adhesive bonding, being co-chair of the Vehicle Body Engineering Conference and International Conference on Engineering Manufacture and member of the organization and scientific committee of the conferences International Conference on Structural Adhesive Bonding, International Conference on Industrial Applications of Adhesives, International Conference on Durability, Repair and Maintenance of Structures and the Ibero-American Conference on Composite Materials. He is associate editor of the "Journal on Teaching Engineering" and of the journal Engineering Manufacturing Letters. He is a member of the editorial board of "The Journal of Adhesion" and "Discover Mechanical Engineering". He has filed four patent applications, mainly related to production methods and testing of structural adhesive bonds. He carries out consultancy work for national (e.g. Bosch Termotecnologia, Amtrol-Alfa, Frezite ) and international companies (e.g. Honda, Nagase Chemtex, John Deere, Safran, Infineon, Henkel, Huawei, ArcelorMittal, among many others).
