Gabriela Guedes completed a degree in Biochemistry in 2017 and an MSc in Biomedical Materials and Devices in 2019 by the University of Aveiro. She was an exchange student (Erasmus+ programme) at the Univesity of Helsinki, where she developed part of her master thesis. Within this work, she developed injectable hydrogels with the ability to perform hyperthermia, as well as drug release in a pH and laser triggered way. During her master’s degree, Gabriela participated in the research project ThermoPOMs as a Research Fellow grantee. Within this project, she developed and characterised organic-inorganic anisotropic hybrids. Currently, Gabriela is developing magnetic nanoparticles with a phase transition near room temperature to be used as thermometers. Gabriela published 2 papers in scientific peer-reviewed journals: one about the biomedical applications of bacterial cellulose, and another elucidating the role of emergent polyoxometalate composites in cancer therapy and diagnostic. Additionally, she presented 5 oral and 8 poster communications.
