M. Alexandra Barreiros received her Diploma in Physics in 1988 and Master degree in Atomic and Molecular Physics in 1994, from the University of Lisbon, and the Doctorate (PhD.) in the field of Applied Physics from the New University of Lisbon, in 2003. She is a researcher working at LNEG (The National Laboratory of Energy and Geology) in the Unit of Materials for Energy. The domain of specialization and scientific interests are X-ray spectrometry and diffraction techniques, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis, ion beam analysis, including nuclear microprobes, and synchrotron radiation techniques. At the present, M. A. Barreiros main research activity is in the Photovoltaic area and concerns the development of new analytical methodologies to accurately characterize functional materials for single and multi-junction perovskite-based solar cells. Another field of present research is the use of concentrated solar energy to produce chemical fuels such as H2 and/or CO (via direct solar thermochemical fuel production - TCFP): utilization of solar TCFP to CeO2 based catalysts, for H2O and CO2 splitting, and characterization of these materials.
