Miguel A Faria completed his PhD in Nutrition and Food Chemistry in 2005 at the University of Porto (UP) and his degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1996 at UP. Presently he is a Researcher at the associated laboratory LAQV REQUIMTE (http://www.requimte.pt/laqv/) and Invited Assistant Professor in Food Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, UP. Previously held postdoctoral positions at the department of Food and Water Science UP from 2006-12 and at CIBIO (Research Center for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources) during 2012-13. Participated in several advanced courses concerning transcriptomics and simulation of gastro-intestinal vitro digestion. H index of 16, published 57 indexed papers (31 in the last 5 years) 5 book chapters, totalizing 795 citations, and over 70 communications, in national and international conferences. In his professional activities interacted with 246 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers. Supervised/co-supervised 9 MSc and 5 PhD thesis. He is a Review Editor for Frontiers in Nutrition (Food Chemistry), Frontiers in Plant Science (Plant Biotechnology) and Molecules and is frequently invited to peer-review in >15 Q1 journal in Food Science & Technology. Participates and/or participated in 12 national research projects (co-PI in 3: PTDC/SAU-NUT/6061/2020; PTDC/SAU-NUT/30322/2017; PTDC/OCE-ETA/32567/2017); 2 EU funded projects (SeafoodTOMORROW; ECSafeSEAFOOD; SYSTEMIC); and 3 international Networks (INFOGEST, UNGAP and ML4MICROBIOME) where he actively participates in in vitro models optimization. His main expertise is: (i) human cell-based assays for testing the effects of food bioactive/toxic compounds as well as their bioaccessibility, intestinal transport, metabolization and cellular effects in vitro and (ii) molecular biology methods to evaluate food authenticity of plant, animal, and fungi food ingredients by fast qPCR sequence-based methodologies.
