Ana Lúcia Cabral Cardoso Lopes obtained her education at the University of Coimbra (UC), having completed a degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1998, the MSc in Chemistry in 2003 and PhD in Chemistry (specialization in Chemical Synthesis) in 2009. She is currently a Researcher at Coimbra Chemistry Center (CQC), in the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the UC, integrated in the Organic Chemistry Research Group (OrgChem@CQC). She is sub-Director of the CQC and a member of the Outreach Committee of the Chemistry Department of UC. Her interests are mainly in the area of synthetic organic chemistry. Her research topics include the chemistry of small heterocyclic rings and their use as intermediates in the synthesis of more complex structures with potential biological activity, as well as the development of sustainable synthetic methodologies for the preparation of various heterocycles based on the transformation of furan derivatives. She has published 37 peer-reviewed papers, 4 book chapters, is co-inventor of 6 international patents/patent applications, and has presented 51 oral and panel communications at national and international scientific meetings. She has participated as a team member in 8 funded research projects. Her professional career also includes teaching activity and chemistry outreach activities. She was an Assistant Professor at the Escola Superior de Tecnologias da Saúde and an Invited Assistant Professor at the UC, and has been involved in teaching various chemistry subjects at the Chemistry Department for many years. She is currently co-supervising two PhD students and two Masters students, and has supervised and co-supervised several other Masters and undergraduate students in their major research projects. She has also been involved in the organization of workshops, conferences and science dissemination activities.

2023/02/14 - 2023/02/14 "The Breakfast@DQ.UC" event was held at the DQ on 14 February as part of the "Global Women's Breakfast 2023" initiative promoted by IUPAC. The shared breakfast brought together more than 50 participants, including teachers, researchers and students. The socialising was lively and allowed different generations of researchers to share their experiences.
