Paula Guedes de Pinho is graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences by the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto (FFUP) and completed a PhD degree in Medical and Biological Sciences at the University of Bordeaux II, France. She has obtained the Habilitation degree in Toxicology by University of Porto in 2019. From 2016 she is a Coordinator Researcher at UCIBIO-REQUIMTE/FFUP. Between 2018 and 2020 she was an Invited Associate Professor (with Habilitation) at the Faculty of Science of University of Porto (Department of Biology). Currently, she is an Affiliate Professor of the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto and since 2023 she has a contracted researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Porto University. She teachs 'Metabolomics' in several PhD and Master courses at FFUP, FMUP and FCUP where she is responsible for the curricular unit "Metabolomics in Functional Omics" at the Master in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. She published more than 200 papers (h-index 48-Scopus) in international peer review journals, 13 book chapters, and 10 prizes or awards. She supervised 14 PhD students (and 4 ongoing). She was Guest Editor for the Special Issues "Cancer Metabolomics 2018" of Metabolites Journal and for a Special issue in "Foods". She is a permanent Member of the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Oncology, Metabolites, Archives of Clinical Nephrology, Annals of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology. Since 2021, she is also a Topic Editor of the Topic "Cancer Cell Metabolism" of MDPI. She is reviewer for several international journals related to the field of Metabolomics, Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Toxicology and Cancer. She implemented at the Laboratory of Toxicology of FFUP the research line of Metabolomics applied to Food, Cancer biomarker discovery and Toxicometabolomics, getting financed projects for its development. She was a Principal Investigator of a FCT project "ACCUSED RenAl Cell Carcinoma Detection Renal Cancer detection: a translational metabolomics research based on Volatile Organic Compounds fingerprinting" (PTDC/SAU-SER/30388/2017). She is also responsible, at the Laboratory of Toxicology of FFUP, for GC-MS analysis requested by industries, hospitals and general public (external analysis). She was Member of the FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) scientific committee for attribution of Individual PhD and Postdoctoral Scholarships (2013-2019). Her present research interests are: 1) Study of low molecular weight compounds (metabolites) in food, natural and biological matrices by Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, using target, non-target approaches and chemometric tools; 2) Development of new analytical methodologies to determine xenobiotics and their metabolites using Gas and Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry; 3) Use metabolomic to dissect mechanisms of action and to find new and sensitive biomarkers of toxicity (Toxicometabolomics) and 4) Use of Metabolomics to prostate, bladder and renal cancer detection and biomarker discovery.
