Ricardo Fontes Portal holds a PhD (2013), a Master's degree (Pre-Bologna - 2006) and a Bachelor's degree (Pre-Bologna - 2004) in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where he worked on reconstructing road accidents and road safety in his final course project and his Master's and PhD theses, and as a researcher at IDMEC - Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica - Pólo IST. He has collaborated on computer reconstructions of road accidents carried out by IDMEC-IST since 2002. He is a founding partner of the accident investigation company icollision (technologies and consultancy for the scientific analysis of accidents, Lda), founded in September 2009. Its main functions are the investigation of road accidents requested by magistrates of the judicial system, insurance companies, lawyers and private citizens. Icollision is the exclusive representative and reseller of DSD.at software products PC-Crash, PC-Draw and PC-Rect in Portugal and that you are qualified and authorized to perform training and give support to DSD.at customers. He was also a founding partner of carcrash (Simulação Computacional de Acidentes e Engenharia), in 2006, working as an accident investigator until 2008. Academically, and since 2009, he has collaborated with various higher education institutions: Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (ESTG-IPL), Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL), Escola Superior Nautica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH) and Universidade Atlântica (UA). He has also collaborated with the professional school INETE - Instituto de Educação Técnica. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the ISEL¿s Mechanical Engineering Department, where he has mainly taught Technical Drawing, Computer-Aided Design and Mechanical Engineering Drawing Practices, as well as the laboratorial component of the Materials course in the Mechanical Engineering BSc. He also collaborates with the Chemical Engineering Department where he taught Computer-Aided Design for the Biomedical Engineering BSc and the Medical Devices and Artificial Organs course from the Biomedical Engineering MSc. In addition to the subjects he teaches, he also supervises the Master's theses of some students and is a regular participant in scientific projects and in the examination of Master's dissertations at various higher education institutions. Additionally, he´s a researcher at Instituto de Engenharia Mecânica (LAETA/IDMEC/IST) and Centro de Investigação em Modelação e Optimização de Sistemas Multifuncionais (CIMOSM/ISEL). He is also the Solidworks Certification provider for ISEL and he's the main instigator for students to achieve several certifications in that CAD software.
