I am a biologist with experience in botany, terrestrial ecology, and conservation. My main interests encompass tropical forest ecology, and island biogeography. I have experience in project, organizational, and team management; in private, non-governmental, and governmental sectors. I am one of the founders of the NGO Instituto Biodiversidade Austral (Brazil) where I acted as Scientific Coordinator from 2015-2017. I have experience in plant taxonomy, working with Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and Fundação Príncipe (FP), and in partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden with whom I am describing new species and conducting Red Listing Assessments for the flora of Príncipe Island. Also, I have been part of several studies in palynology and sustainable beekeeping as an alternative livelihood, both in Brazil and São Tomé and Príncipe. Acting as Project Manager for FFI and Terrestrial Programme Manager for FP from 2017-2022 I have worked with data collection and analysis; capacity building; awareness and environmental education; conservation prioritization and strategy; management of protected areas; policy and livelihoods. I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate on the BIODIV programme at the University of Porto.
