Teresa Valente has a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Aveiro and a Master in Environmental Sciences - Environmental Quality from the University of Minho. 2004 she obtained a doctor's degree in Geology from the same University. She is currently an Associate Professor with habilitation at the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Minho. Professional experience is close to 30 years of service linked to different national and international organizations. During her professional career, she has held positions in design and environmental consulting companies and research and/or teaching activities at Universities and International Research Centers. She coordinated the BS in Environmental Sciences degree and the Master’s program in Environmental Sciences and Technology of the University of Minho. Presently, she is the Head of the Department of Earth Sciences. Her research activity is developed at the Institute of Earth Sciences, which includes three of the leading Portuguese Universities, being the coordinator of the research group Environmental Monitoring and Remediation for Sustainability. Her research domains are focused on environmental geochemistry, environmental monitoring, mine waters, and rehabilitation of contaminated areas. Under these subjects, she coordinates numerous Master’s and PhD theses. She has been participating in several collaborative projects related to the environmental impact of mining with European partners, but also in other parts of the world, namely Africa and South America. She is an associated editor of the Mine Water and the Environment journal. Her scientific production includes more than 80 ISI/Scopus papers.
