Luís Miguel dos Santos Laím is a Civil Engineer and holds a Ph.D. in Fire Safety Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra (UC), completed in 2013 and approved unanimously with distinction and honour. He is now an Assistant Professor at UC and Researcher within the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE) and his principal research interests lie in the areas of Structural fire engineering; Fire testing methods; Structural analysis and design; Fire design; Buckling phenomenon; Steel and composite structures; Structural optimization and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Luis Laím also holds a Licentiate degree and an Integrated Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra, both with a grade of 17 out of 20. He has been teaching at UC since 2014 and nowadays he is teaching on the Bachelor's Degree in Management of Sustainable and Smart Cities, the Master of Civil Engineering, the Master's Degree in Steel and Composite Construction Engineering and the Doctoral Course in Steel and Composite Construction at UC. He is (co-)author of several publications in international periodicals and has a h-index of 19 based upon data from Scopus (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=35327263900). In addition, he presented many research papers in conferences, a bit around the world (such as, in Brazil, Czech Republic, Sweden, Turkey, USA, China, Canada and so on) and was co-supervisor of 13 Master's Degree Dissertations and 2 PhD Thesis published in UC. He has been involved in 10 Scientific Research and Technological Development Project Grants, since 2012. He has also cooperated regularly in consultancy works (14 since 2016, including in studies for the World Steel Association, ArcelorMittal, Martifer and Perfisa), research and development and transfer of knowledge in the framework of the research unit ISISE and the fire laboratory, FireLab, of UC. Finally, he has also been a member of Organizing and Scientific Committees of several conferences since 2014, as well as a periodical reviewer for well-known scientific journals, such as Engineering Structures, Thin-Walled Structures, Journal of Constructional Steel Research from Elsevier, and so on. He is still Guest Editor of a Special Issue in the Journal Applied Sciences (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/applsci/special_issues/Fire_Civil).
