Inês Areal Rothes is psychologist and assistant teacher at Porto University, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences. She is integrated in the Center for Psychology at University of Porto (CPUP) in the Development and Education research group (DE) and her area of expertise is suicidology - the study of suicidal behaviours and its prevention. Her research and knowledge translation work are included in a research line: health, mental health and psychosocial adjustment. She did postdoctoral studies in the area of affected families by suicide attempts, being PI of an international multicentric study about parents of young people who had self-harm behaviors. Two of her previous studies about clinical work with suicidal patients were recognizing by represent a remarkable advancement of suicide research knowledge by the Griffith University - Australian for Suicide Research and Prevention. Among its publications highlight the participation in the Postvention in action: The international handbook of suicide bereavement support published by Hogrefe. She received training from the University of Oslo at the National Center for Suicide Research and Prevention and she did a research internship in the University of Leuven, Faculty of Medicine - LUCAS centre. Currently she supervises master and doctoral thesis in the field of suicidology and mental health in different Faculties (national and international). She was Principal investigator in capacity-building projects in schools in the area of mental health. She is one of the eight responsible by National Suicide Prevention Strategy, being involved in the design and formation of the future national suicide prevention line (Ministry of Health). She is involved in different projects in suicide prevention and mental health, namely in the National Projet. of Suicide Prevention in the Railway Network. At the moment she is the scientific responsible by the Suicide Prevention Plan at Porto University.
