I am a young Biological Engineer interested in stem cell characterization with applications in regenerative medicine and cellular agriculture. I attained my master’s degree in Biological Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, Portugal) with specialization courses in Bioinformatics and Stem Cell Bioengineering. My professional experience has allowed me to become proficient in stem cell culture and differentiation, and advanced stem cell characterization techniques such as flow cytometry, qRT-PCR and immunocytochemistry. In 2021 I developed my master’s thesis at the Stem Cell Engineering Research Group (SCERG) in the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB, Portugal), entitled " Development of Bioengeneering Strategies for Periodontal Tissue Regeneration ", as a member of the DentalBioMatrix (PTDC/BTM-MAT/3538/2020) Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia-funded project. During my master's thesis project, I isolated and characterized stem cells derived from the periodontal ligament (PDLSC) of human teeth, compared them against bone marrow- and adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), and cultured PDLSC biocompatible 3D printed scaffolds. I have contributed as second author to the scientific paper Impact of donor age on the osteogenic supportive capacity of mesenchymal stromal cell-derived extracellular matrix (https://doi.org/10.3389%2Ffcell.2021.747521), in the journal Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology. In December of 2022, I presented this publication in the Ageing without Borders 2022 conference in the city of Faro. Currently (since July of 2022), I am a member of the Good Food Institute-funded project, Algae2Fish, developed in SCERG-iBB. This project aims to create an in vitro cultured fish fillet with edible 3D bioprinted scaffolds derived from algae and vegetables. Currently, I am working on fish cell characterization regarding pluripotency, optimizing immunocytochemistry and qRT-PCR protocols.
