I have worked in the Department of Conservation and Restoration (DCR) of the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA, since October 2002. Before joining DCR I had already worked at the National Palace of Sintra as responsible for the inventory of the Palace heritage (1999-2001). I also collaborated with Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation lecturing brief courses of History and Art History (1998-2002). I am now Assistant Professor with Tenure at the DCR at NOVA since 2022 and from March 2022, onwards I become the Coordinator of the bachelor level. Both my Master and PhD are in the area of History of the Art, focusing on the specific field of Portuguese Medieval Architecture: Gothic Cloisters in Portugal - 13th-15th Centuries (Master, 1997); Gothic Religious Architecture in Portugal in the 14th Century. The Time of Experimentalisms (PhD, 2013). My research has been focused in two lines of research: a) A line dedicated to Medieval Religious Architecture, based on research developed within the scope of the PhD. In the thesis I problematized the concept of experimentalism in the 14th century in Portugal, framing it in the historical-cultural context of national Gothic religious architecture between the 13th and 15th centuries, in conjunction with the panorama experienced in other European territories (namely Spain, France, Italy and Germany). In 2018, I was invited to participate in the international project Medieval City. City of the Friars, (DIST Politecnico di Torino, Università di Torino and Università di Padova). In in the same year I participated in Conference dedicated to medieval frontiers and as a result of my presentation I was invited by the coordinator of the project Rethinking the Medieval Frontier (University of Leeds) to join this project. This endorsed the possibility of establishing a network of collaborators from Europe to the USA and Asia (India), which has already resulted in participation in different events that in turn led to new invitations. b) A line dedicated to the study of Glass, based on research started in 2011 inserted in two projects of VICARTE Research and Development Unit (NOVA): The Stained Glass Collection of King Ferdinand II of Portugal and Egg with Anthropomorphic Reliefs. From 2017 to the present, I have based my scientific work on research of stained glass – nationally produced or present in national collections –, with a particular focus on the study of iconography. This study included a sub-line of research, developed between 2019 and 2020, which focused on an innovative theme, interconnecting glass, iconography and the forest. In this way, an unprecedented investigation was developed into the representation of the forest in national stained glass between the medieval period and contemporary times. This research resulted in the publication of a book in December 2020. In parallel, I also began the development of a second sub-line of research focused on glasses for pharmaceutical and medicinal use between the modern and contemporary era, a theme that corresponds to a neglected area in the study of glass. Recently, in collaboration with a colleague from VICARTE I decided to reorienter the focus in order to encompass both our interests. The aim was refocused on glass for chemistry (with different uses), and in this sense I find myself currently developing a collaboration with a colleague from VICARTE and several researchers and institutions. This line has also taken into account my responsibilities as a professor at DCR and as integrated member of VICARTE, motivating my contribution to the supervision of doctoral and master's theses in the field of glass.
