M. Bernardo is a Researcher at NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA University Lisbon) since 2018. Graduated in Chemical Engineering (2005), MSc in Energy and Bioenergy (2011) and PhD in Energy and Bioenergy (2013). The doctoral studies were funded by a 4-year fellowship granted by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Since 2014 she is an integrated researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE research unit. M. Bernardo published 66 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with more than 1500 citations and an h-index of 25. Maria Bernardo also published 5 book chapters, 32 papers in conference proceedings and 44 conference abstracts. She presented 12 oral communications and 55 posters in international conferences. M. Bernardo participated as a researcher in 5 national projects funded by FCT and 3 European projects (European Union 7th Framework Programme, Horizon H2020 and HORIZON Europe). Since 2022 she has been Evaluator of projects proposals for the Polish National Science Centre, in the Production and Processes Engineering panel. M. Bernardo organized 4 scientific conferences, participated in 19 scientific events, supervised 3 PhD theses and is currently supervising 4 PhD theses, supervised 18 MSc theses and 9 graduation internships. The focus of M. Bernardo research relies on themes such as thermochemical conversion of biomass, bioenergy, wastes valorization, functional materials, adsorbents, adsorption processes, water/gas treatment, among others.
