I am principal researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences (IA, Lisbon node) and invited lecturer at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, where I teach the master level course in Physical Cosmology. I completed my PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics in the domain of observational cosmology at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, with the degree awarded by the University of Lisbon in 2007. After the PhD, I further specialized in the field of gravitational lensing as a post-doc fellow at the University of Bonn, before returning to Portugal in 2010 with a Marie Curie Reintegration Grant. My research interests focus on galaxy surveys in the optical and infra-red as probes of the large-scale structure of the Universe, including topics such as estimators for weak lensing and cosmological model testing. I am a member of ESA’s Euclid space mission since 2012, and a founding member of Portugal’s participation in Euclid. I am the Euclid Consortium Survey Scientist, overseeing the day-to-day survey science operations and with a key role in mission planning and science monitoring. In this capacity, I lead the team responsible for computing the sequence of observations of the full mission (the survey operations support team) that is delivered to the Euclid Science Operations Center at ESA. I am P.I. of the project that supports the team’s activities (150 k€ per year). The team was awarded a consortium STAR prize in 2020. In 2022 I became a member of the Euclid Consortium Coordination Group and in 2023 I was appointed by ESA’s Science Director as one of the six ESA-appointed scientists in NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Mission (a 3-year renewable position). I have published over 100 articles in high-impact international scientific journals, and have a h-index of 34. I have organised meetings and workshops as LOC and SOC, and was invited speaker on several occasions. I am also active in science communication, with recurrent collaborations with the media.
