Daniel Murta, besides being a researcher at the Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Sanidade Animal (CIISA-FMV-ULisboa) and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, where he teaches Physiology, is also the founder and CEO of Ingredient Odyssey. Daniel is a Veterinarian (2009, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal) and holds a PhD in Veterinary Medicine (2014, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon, Portugal). Although his PhD was performed in animal reproduction, studying the Notch signaling pathway in both male and female reproduction using mutant mouse models (a research line that he still maintains at CIISA), his main current field of research is the use of insects as a tool, allowing the production of novel nutrient solutions but also the development of bioremediation strategies. Is a partner in several national and international funded project and PI at national level projects. Has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and has supervised/co-supervised 20 MSc thesis. He is a member of the Board of the Portuguese Society of Veterinary Sciences since 2013 and Editor of the Portuguese Journal of Veterinary Sciences between 2016 and 2019. In 2014 he founded Ingredient Odyssey, a company dedicated to the production of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) and Tenebrio molitor both for food and feed and is co-founder of Portugal Insect, the recently created Association of Insect Producers
