Paulo J. Silva (PJS) is an Assistant Researcher under FCT Stimulus of Scientific Employment - individual support call - first edition (CEECIND/00488/2017), at the Center for Physics, University of Coimbra. PJS graduated from the University of Porto (1998). He completed a Master (2002) and a Ph.D. degree (2008) in Theoretical Physics from the University of Coimbra, being the first Ph.D. ever realized in Portugal in the field of Lattice QCD. Meanwhile, PJS completed a Music Complementary course (level 8) from the Aveiro Conservatory (2005). After his Ph.D., PJS has been a post-doc in Edinburgh from 2008 to 2010, and since then he has been working in Coimbra, performing innovative research work in Lattice QCD and also collaborating with PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe). He has several active collaborations with foreign institutions, and he is an active member of the Portuguese Lattice QCD Collaboration, a group of people based in portuguese universities conducting research in Lattice QCD. During his career, PJS authored 107 publications, including 41 papers in leading international peer review journals and 64 conference proceedings, with a total of 2251 citations and a h-index of 25 (data taken from INSPIRE-HEP database). PJS has also presented and/or contributed to more than 100 communications (oral/poster) in national and international scientific conferences and meetings. PJS has served as a member of the organizing comittee of 6 international scientific conferences/workshops/schools (4 of them in Coimbra or nearby). PJS has been invited to review manuscripts submitted to several journals, such as Physical Review D and Computer Physics Communications (26 verified reviews in WoS). PJS has been a member of several research projects funded by FCT (accumulated funding: 660000 Eur). In particular, he was the principal investigator (PI) of the projects CERN/FP/123620/2011 (10000 Eur) and CERN/FIS-COM/0029/2017 (10000 Eur). Applications to computer time provided more than 160 million corehours in HPC clusters in Portugal and Europe. Paulo Silva is an organizer of Physics Department public seminars “Café com Física”, University of Coimbra, since September 2022. He is involved in the Seminar courses of the Master program in Physics, encouraging the participation of the students in the “Café com Física”. He also taught a 4-hour module about Lattice QCD within the Master level course “Nuclear and Hadronic Models”. PJS has been a supervisor of four Master theses in Coimbra, and he has also collaborated in the supervision of three Ph.D. students (from Instituto Superior Técnico [IST], São Paulo and Leuven Univ.). He participated in the juri of several final examinations of Master theses and collaborated in the supervision and evaluation of several Seminars of the Master in Physics, University of Coimbra. He has also supervised several CFisUC research fellows. Moreover, he has been invited for the juri of final examinations of one Master (2012) and two Ph.D. theses (2013, 2022) in the field of Lattice QCD, at IST, Lisbon.
