I am a young Portuguese researcher interested in energy metabolism and cell regulation. I finished my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry in 2017 and my Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2020, both at the University of Coimbra. During this period, I worked mostly on understanding the hepatic metabolic dysregulation during Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. This work led to eight poster presentations (three 1st authorships), one oral communication (1st authorship), one journal article (co-authorship) and my dissertation. In March 2021, I started working as a Research Fellow at the University of Florence. There, I studied the microbiome's interaction with host metabolism, having done an oral communication that led to a conference paper (1st authorship) and published 2 journal articles (co-authorship). In 2022, I enrolled on the PhD programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine at the University of Coimbra with a funded FCT grant (2022.10983.BD) to study "The role of exogenous and endogenous fructose turnover in adipose tissue dysfunction during the development of Type 2 Diabetes". This project is a collaboration between the Intermediary Metabolism group (Centre for Innovative Biology and Biomedicine, Portugal), where I am supervised by Professor John Jones, and the Clinical Diabetology and Metabolism group (Uppsala University, Sweden), where Professor Jan Eriksson is my supervisor.
