Janeide de Assis Guilherme Padilha

Janeide Padilha, an invited professor at the University of Minho received a Junior Researcher Contract in the 6th Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC IND - 6th Edition) in Environmental Sciences. Her education includes a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences - Zoology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil (2015), with an exchange year at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (2012-2013). She completed her Master's (2017) and Ph.D. (2021) in Biophysics at UFRJ, spending 1.5 years on exchange programs in Belgium at the University of Liège (2015-2016, 2019-2020) and the University of Antwerp (2019). Beginning her research career in 2021, she worked at the University of São Paulo, Brazil before joining the Center of Molecular and Environmental Biology at the University of Minho, Portugal in 2022. She has been awarded 6 prizes and/or honors during her scientific career. Padilha has published in international journals and contributed chapters on global changes, pollutants in aquatic environments, and ecosystem services. She peer-reviews over 10 journals, has presented at numerous national and international conferences, and organized four international conferences. She is currently involved in four ongoing scientific projects as a team member and consultant: MultiCrash (University of Minho), Plastic Waste in Coastal Regions of Brazil (University of São Paulo), Inach: PFAS in Antarctic Environment (Universidad de Concepción, Chile), and SPSP Biota (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), contributing to eight completed projects across Brazil, Belgium, and Portugal. She supervises four master's students and co-supervises two in the MultiCrash project and one in SPSP Biota at UFRJ. Padilha teaches classes in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Minho, including Population Ecology and an Advanced Course on Ecosystem Services, and has taught Biophysics and Organic Micropollutants at UFRJ, as well as Marine Contamination at the University of Liège. She has been active in extension activities for global change, biodiversity, and ecosystem services in Brazil and Portugal, highlighted by a RUM radio interview in Braga about the MultiCrash project, as well as being invited to several lectures such as Café com Ciência at the University of São Paulo, and at the 3rd Summer Course in Biophysics at the UFRJ. Padilha has served on a master's defense jury at Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos, Brazil, and on evaluation committees at the University of São Paulo. She also has significant experience in field sampling in polar, subpolar, tropical, and temperate aquatic environments, including acting as the sub-coordinator of the Antarctic Expedition Penguins and Skuas 2013-2014.
