João Pedro Oliveira teaches Asian Studies at the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) in Lisbon. He currently holds a research grant to study a collection of Asian artifacts at the Museu do Oriente, Lisbon, and a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to translate the Armenian epic Daredevils of Sassoun from Armenian into Portuguese. He holds a Ph.D. in Culture Studies (FCH-UCP), for which he wrote a thesis on Indian mythological fiction based on the Ramaya¿a; an M.A. in Linguistics (FLUL), with a thesis on the Macanese Creole and its literature; a B.A. in Language, Literature and Culture (FLUL); and a B.A. in Cinema (ESTC). His research interests primarily include narrative, identity, and nationalism in Asia.
