Joana Moreira da Silva obtained her Master's degree in Microbiology from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2018 and her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science at the University of Lisbon in 2015. In 2019, she was awarded a one-year fellowship at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, where she studied the immune-physiological pathways involved in the development of cerebral malaria within the Disease Genetics Group led by Dr. Carlos Penha-Gonçalves. During her fellowship, she also completed a two-month internship at the Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm University. Currently, Joana is completing her PhD studies at the Laboratory of Antibiotic Resistance under the guidance of Professor Constança Pomba at CIISA (Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar Sanidade Animal), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon. Her primary research interest lies in developing infection prevention and control guidelines for small animal veterinary practices, particularly focusing on multidrug-resistant bacteria. She serves as the principal investigator of the ongoing FCT project Vetcare, aimed at assessing the landscape of multidrug-resistant bacteria in veterinary practices and designing appropriate infection prevention and control guidelines. Joana is also a lecturer in the course "Strategies for Antimicrobial Therapy in Veterinary Medicine," and she has published papers in international peer-reviewed journals. She has presented her research findings at both national and international conferences. Additionally, Joana is a member of ESGVM (European Study Group for Veterinary Microbiology) and ESGPHM (European Study Group for Public Health Microbiology). She has also worked as clinical microbiologist at Genevet Laboratory ( veterinary diagnostic laboratory).
