I am a researcher with an academic background in biochemistry and biotechnology, having graduated with a master's degree in the latter. Currently, I am immersed in a challenging and innovative PhD program at Glyco Lab UCIBIO-NOVA, where my focus lies in unraveling the intricate molecular mechanisms through which bacteria exploit O-glycans. This involves a comprehensive investigation, utilizing human microbiome O-glycome microarrays, structural characterization of bacterial glycan binding proteins, and exploring the modulation of cellular interactions. My journey into the fascinating realm of glycans began at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, where I led a key research line at the Crouzier Lab. Here, my efforts centered around developing an in vitro model of mucinous tumors, resulting in a promising proof of concept. My research endeavors are driven by a profound interest in understanding the biological implications of glycans in both health and disease. Furthermore, my doctoral program is an integral part of a dynamic capacity-building network, forging collaborations with esteemed institutions such as Imperial College, LUMC, and CICbioGUNE. Through this academic journey under the supervision of Doctors Angelina S. Palma, Paula Videira and Filipa Marcelo, I aim to contribute significantly to the evolving field of glycobiology and its implications for human health.
