Erik Teixeira Lopes graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Brasília and is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minho, where he also serves as a guest lecturer in the Department of Production and Systems. He previously served as organizational president and project manager at Concreta Consultoria e Serviços, and later worked in management and technology consulting at EloGroup, where he contributed to the development of public telemedicine policies and the implementation of technology solutions in public and private institutions across Brazil. He participated as a researcher in the scientific initiation project “Active Learning Methodologies: A Proposal for Introducing Innovative Concepts in Civil Engineering Education”, supervised by Professor Dr. André Aquere. His current research interests include healthcare operations management, lean healthcare, Industry 4.0, sustainability, and engineering education. He has been actively involved in several international research initiatives, such as the ERASMUS+ ReCap 4.0 project, focused on reinforcing engineering and technology education to support Thailand’s sustainable smart industry, along with Erasmus+EGALITARIAN,Erasmus+ PBL4TEA, and the Arqus Alliance WG05 on Teaching Innovation. He holds professional certifications as Delivery Specialist (OutSystems), AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and Business Analyst (Automation Anywhere). His expertise includes project management, agile methodologies, Lean Six Sigma, programming, requirements specification, and data analysis. He is the author of seven Scopus-indexed journal articles on healthcare operations and epidemiology, as well as several conference papers in the field of healthcare operations.
