Aida Estela Castro is a researcher, teacher, and artist whose work gathered diverse productions exploring hybrid methodologies between practices (visual and writing) and speculative knowledge. Currently, her work sits on the archaeologies of media-bodies, a term that appears on the project (de)MONSTRAS: imaginaries, corporealities and amphibious materialities (2023-24, ICNOVA), for studying figures, matters and imaginaries in hybrid and technical bodies demonstrations. She holds a PhD in Communication Sciences: Communication and the Arts from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon (FCSH UNL), with the thesis "Mapping the Space between Art and Science in Contemporary Culture: Link and Interval", having been awarded an FCT scholarship; a master's degree in Contemporary Culture and New Technologies (FCSH UNL) and a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), programmes that provided tools for analysing contemporary complexities involving bodies, techniques and the environment. Currently, she is an Invited Assistant Professor in the Multimedia department at FBAUP, where she teaches Art and Technology, Artistic Practices Projects, Image and Movement and Videographic Practices in the Master's and Bachelor's programmes and an integrated member of Culture, Mediations and Arts group at ICNOVA research unit. She was also the coordinator of VIDEODREAMS: Practices of the Imaginary (2022, FBAUP), with Cristina Mateus, an intense display that brought together films and a brochure-manifesto made with/by students that explored images as an artistic object and as a matter that essays about locked videographic bodies. She has been working with Maria Mire in an artistic duo since 2017 whose recently edited issue 59 of the Scopus Journal of Communication and Languages, on the theme MEDIA-BODIES: Matter and Imaginary (2023, ICNOVA) and Interact #34, Online Journal of Art, Culture and Technology, on the theme DEAD LINK: mediations of artistic practices (2021, ICNOVA). Since 2023, she has been working with Rogério Nuno Costa as a researcher within the European project STAGES - Sustainable Theatre Alliance for a Green Environmental Shift, hosted by D. Maria II National Theatre. Aida supervises the theoretical-practical research of graduate students in the fields of Art and Technology, Art and Mediation, Media-Bodies, Hybrid Methodologies, Videographic Practices and Critical Posthumanism. She is currently the director of Interact: Online Journal of Art, Culture and Technology together with Luís Mendonça.
