Koraljka Muzic obtained a PhD in Physics from the University of Cologne and the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (Germany) in 2008. She then held postdoctoral positions at the Universities of Cologne (Germany), Toronto (Canada), and Diego Portales (Chile), as well as a fellowship at the European Southern Observatory (ESO, Chile). From 01/2017 to 07/2023, she worked at the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) within the I&D unit CENTRA (FCT Investigator and researcher). Since August 2023, she has been a member of Instituto de Astrofísica e Ciências do Espaço (IA) as an FCT CEEC IND Principal Investigator. She is also an invited assistant professor at FCUL and an invited associate professor at the University of Split (Croatia). She was an invited visiting researcher at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh (UK, 2 months in 2018) and ESO (Chile, 4 months in 2025). K. Muzic's research focus is in the area of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs, studying different channels through which one may find clues about the dominant mechanism of their formation. She is a key investigator in the SONYC (Substellar Objects in Nearby Young Clusters) survey, one of the most successful efforts in identifying young brown dwarfs (BDs) and characterizing their mass and spatial distributions. In 2017, she launched a project to study BDs in massive young clusters—environments significantly different from those studied before. This project received funding from FCT (PTDC/FIS-AST/28731/2017), financing a group consisting of a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD student, and 4 MSc students. K. Muzic is a member of the following international teams and consortia: METIS/ELT (member of the Science Operations and Science Teams), VISIONS (VISTA Star Formation Atlas), and EWOCS (Extended Westerlund 1 and 2 Open Cluster Survey). K. Muzic has also been actively involved in the supervision of undergraduate (12), Master (5 finished + 1 in progress) and PhD (1 finished + 2 in progress) students. She served as a tutor and lecturer at 6 international schools in the Czech Republic, Chile, and Portugal (between 2015 and 2025), and has taught several bachelor and master courses. Since 2019, she served as a member of international Bachelor (2), MSc (1) and PhD (4) thesis juries. K. Muzic has ample observing experience, with more than 250 nights of observations at the world's largest optical telescopes, mostly ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). Over her career, she has (co-)authored multiple accepted observing proposals (~25 as PI, >65 as co-I). In the last 5 years, the project focused on massive clusters was awarded ~40 hours on some of the largest world telescopes (VLT and Gemini; PI Muzic), and 44 hours using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST, co-PI Muzic). K. Muzic is a co-I on an additional 4 GTO and GO programs at the JWST. Since 2019, she also served as a panel member on the Observing Programs Committee of the European Southern Observatory (5 periods). During her career, K. Muzic published 79 articles in refereed SJR Q1 journals with more than 2500 citations, of which 11 as the first author. 26 out of 79 papers have been published in the last 5 years. Her h-index is 33. K. Muzic served on the scientific committee for 4 science conferences and was a co-chair of the METIS/ELT Consortium meeting (2017). She serves as a referee for Q1 journals Astrophysical Journal, Astronomy & Astrophysics, and Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. She regularly presents her work at international conferences and seminars (20 in the last 5 years, of which 3 are invited conference talks, and 10 invited seminars). She regularly participates in outreach activities and serves as a co-organizer of the weekly seminar of the Department of Physics, U. of Lisbon. In the biennium 2023/2024 she served as a vice-president of the Portuguese Astronomical Society. She is actively involved in the organization of the Portuguese Astronomy Olympiad.
