Célio Pina completed his PhD in Biotribology at the University of Leeds (Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering) in 2005 and his degree in Materials Engineering in 1994 at the University of Lisbon (IST). He has been teaching since 1995 and is currently a Senior lecturer at the Setúbal Polytechnic Institute (IPS). He was president of the pedagogical council (until 2018) and coordinator of the Biomedical Technology degree (until 2021), was coordinator of the IPS research centre CDP2T (Centre for Product Development and Technology Transfer) and is currently coordinator of the master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. He has been involved in projects with industry. He has co-authored several articles in journals and conferences procedings . He has supervised several master's students in mechanical and biomedical area and co-supervised one PhD student. He is currently supervising 4 master's students and co-supervising 2 PhD students. His main research interests are tribology; materials development and characterisation; ceramic dental materials; hydrogels (articular cartilage repair) and green materials (for application in the transport sector).
