This is Sina Ataee. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Science and Engineering at the University of Aveiro working under the guidance of Dr. Hélder Relvas. In 2005, I embarked on my academic journey by pursuing a bachelor¿s degree in urban planning at Bojnord University. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a keen interest in the field and gained practical experience by working as an intern at a consulting company in my third semester. This experience, combined with my passion for Urban Planning, motivated me to continue my studies and pursue a master¿s degree in the same field at Shiraz University from 2010 to 2012 in which I was selected as the top student in the Architectural and Art Department in 2011. My master Thesis subject was focused on analyzing urban functions on an urban regional scale using system dynamics (SD). In my research, I introduced a new definition for urban socio-economic functions based upon considering spatial and environmental dynamics and the concept of space notions to assess the variation of urban function. I took the actions of four key players (i.e., Government, planners, people, and developers) into account to find out how they could affect changing the concept of urban socio-economic functions. After completing my master¿s degree, I pursued my passion for Urban Planning by participating in several research studies as a researcher which is reflected in eleven publications peer-review journals and conferences, and national and international reports. Two years later, I began teaching as a lecturer at prestigious universities in Iran, where I was fortunate enough to have served as a lecturer at several universities including the Azad University of Mashhad, Khayyam University, the University of Bojnord, and the Sajjad University of Mashhad for eight years. I have taught specialized courses such as urban land use planning, strategic and action planning, environmental impact assessment (EIA), design, GIS, urban sustainable planning workshops, etc. So I am confident to say that I have been imparting knowledge and skills for the past eight years. In 2018, I was awarded a scholarship for a short-term course on "Urban and Management Development Theories" at the Institute of Housing and Urban Studies (IHS) of Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This opportunity was a turning point in my academic career and helped me to enhance my knowledge and skills. Since then, I have gained valuable scientific and practical experiences in various fields of Urban Planning such as urban innovation, urban social studies, land use planning, and urban local and regional economy. Benefiting from this, I co-founded the first Urban Innovation Studio (UIS) in Iran in 2019, where we design innovative solutions for local issues with a concrete focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through establishing socio-economic co-creation events. It is a pleasure to mention that we have implemented this method through 40 co-creation projects in Iran through which we have developed the urban innovation ecosystem with more than 1500 members, established several online and face-to-face workshops, and provided mentoring services for 400 participants totally in 3 years. I have also been awarded two other scholarships, entitled "Sustainable Urban Development" and "Green Cities for Eco-efficiency," in IHS, 2022, which further enriched my knowledge regarding climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, green-smart cities, and urban environmental comfort analysis. Accordingly, I am extremely enthusiastic to work on innovative research topics related to my background in urban system dynamics modeling and environmental issues.
