Joana Ferreira holds a degree in Chemistry (2005) from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, a master’s degree in Organic Chemistry and Natural Products (2008), and a PhD in Chemistry (2014) from the University of Aveiro. She is currently an Invited Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, School of Agriculture, where she teaches several courses, including Physics, Instrumental Analysis, Certification, Physical and Rheological Analysis in Food, Chemical and Physical Analysis in Food, Human Nutrition, Biochemistry, Food Biotechnology, and Bioproducts Development. She supervises a PhD student, and already suprvised several Master’s students and undergraduate students. Joana is a collaborating researcher at LEAF – Linking Landscape, Environment, Agriculture and Food Research Center (University of Lisbon), within the Food and Feed (G3) research group, and an integrated member of CERNAS – Research Centre for Natural Resources, Environment and Society. Throughout her research career, she has contributed to the publication of over 30 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals and presented her work at numerous national and international conferences. Her main research interests focus on: Nutritional and chemical characterization of foods; Food processing technologies; Development of innovative food products enriched with emerging ingredients (e.g., algae, agro-industrial by-products); Biorefinery and circular economy approaches; Improvement of technological and sensory properties of novel foods; Analytical and organic chemistry, including natural product synthesis, structural elucidation, and green chemistry methodologies. She also maintains a specific interest in the uses of glyphosate and its potential impacts on human health.
