Susana Ribeiro received her degree in 2004 and her MSc degree in 2009 in Chemical Engineering at the School of Engineering Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP). She received her PhD in sustainable chemistry in July 2019 (Universidade do Porto - Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia and Universidade de Aveiro) with FCT fellowship FCT: SFRH/BD/95571/2013. Her PhD project focused the development of composite materials (various metal-oxides as active catalytic centers were immobilized in solid supports such as mesoporous silica, periodic mesoporous organosilicas and metal-organic frameworks) to catalyze oxidative desulfurization processes to reduce the level of sulfur in diesel. Her PhD was performed in collaboration with Galp and she had the opportunity to work in collaboration with members of other national and international institutions, attending short visits that consisted of periods of experimental work; namely, in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon; as well as at the Instituto de Catálisis y Petroleoquímica of Madrid. She is currently working as a contracted researcher at FCUP/LAQV-REQUIMTE within the project FloWater (PTDC/QUI-QIN/28142/2017), focusing in the synthesis of turn-on fluorescent metal ion chelators and its immobilization in solid matrixes to detect, quantify and remove trace concentrations of metal ions. She is co-author of 24 publications in peer-reviewed international journals (h-index=15; 943 citations) and one book chapter. She has also been contributing as peer-reviewer for some high-quality scientific journals. Her current interests are the search for more sustainable processes and materials to synthesize and functionalize mesoporous and composite materials for environmental applications.
