Leonardo de Souza Mesquita is currently a Post-doc Researcher at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Material (Portugal) and at the University of Campinas (Brazil) hired under Project FAPESP - Integrated biorefinery of agricultural waste to obtain natural dyes and value-added bioactive compounds (call FAPESP 2021/11022-1). In 2014 he received a BSc degree in Biology from the University of São Paulo State (UNESP), Brazil, and in 2017 he obtained his MSc degree in Science at the same university. In 2021, he completed his Ph.D. in Science at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP – Brazil). During his research, Leonardo developed several alternative extraction processes using non-volatile alternative solvents to valorize wastes from food and marine sources. Leonardo de Souza Mesquita's primary goal of scientific investigation is to apply green solvents (ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents) for biomass valorization and to improve the color stability of natural colorants. He also has collaboration projects with industries (cosmetic and chemical). In addition, he also has experience in Molecular Biology, chromatography (UHPLC, LC, GC), and spectrophotometry (UV, MS, PDA) for the identification and quantification of natural bioactive compounds. Since 2017 he has published 38 SCI papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, and 4 patents, with more than 100 distinct authors spread worldwide. Moreover, he has contributed with +40 oral and poster communications and was gained 7 distinct honorary merits and awards.
