Teresa Costa Castanho completed her Integrated Master in Health Psychology in 2010 by the School of Psychology at the University of Minho. In 2012, Teresa received a PhD fellowship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and she developed a work mainly focused on how rapid assessment cognitive tools can enable the accurate screening of individuals with a cognitive spectrum from normal to dementia and how telemedicine can play a crucial role on this. She completed her PhD in Health Sciences from the School of Medicine, University of Minho (UM), in April 2017. In the course of her doctorate, Teresa also collaborated in other projects that took place in the School of Medicine and Clinical Academic Center (2CA)-Hospital of Braga. Namely, projects related to cognitive aging, stress in medical students, Delirium in the emergency department, bariatric surgery and mood and impact of caffeine on the brain, through neuropsychological testing and participants recruitment. She is also a collaborator in a team of Raters in several clinical trials in 2CA-Braga regarding Alzheimers disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Upon completion of her PhD, Teresa joined, as a post-doc fellow, the EuStress Project (NORTE-01-0247-FEDER-017832), a consortium between the Optimizer Enterprise and the ICVS/3Bs Associate Lab, which allowed Teresa the acquisition and consolidation of knowledge on the usability of wearable devices on health monitoring. In parallel with this research, Teresa evaluated (longitudinally) a cohort of middle-agers and older adults, in order to identify the potential risk and beneficial determinants of a healthy mental ageing (TEMPO project, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Grant). In January 2019, Teresa started a post-doc at the ICVS/3Bs Associated Lab where she recruited people over 55 years from diverse locations and screening for cognition to further determine which factors are associated with cognitive performance and identify potential biomarkers of healthy/unhealthy aging (Medpersyst project - SAICTPAC/0010/2015). Moreover, she integrated a collaborative study between Portugal (a partnership between the Hospital of Senhora da Oliveira/Guimarães and the working group Hypertension and Brain of the European Society of Hypertension) and Latin America concerning peripheral blood pressure, central hemodynamics and cognition where she performed neuropsychological testing in hypertensive patients. Since the beginning of her PhD, Teresa already recruited and interviewed more than 1000 participants. Currently, Teresa is a Psychologist in the P5 Medicine Center Association (ACMP5, Braga) and is managing as a Principal Investigator one FCT project, obtained in the 2nd Edition of Research4Covid19 grants. This project aims to investigate the COVID-19 impact on the psychological status and cognitive function in a cohort of senior adults of Northern Portugal. Teresa is currently an author of 23 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, being first author in 6 of them. Beyond research, Teresa already supervised five students for their Integrated Masters in Medicine and in her free time is a Clinical Psychologist in a Healthy Aging Centre where she performs neuropsychological evaluations and cognitive training to patients.
