I am currently a first year PhD student at CESAM - Centro de Estudos do Ambiente e do Mar, University of Aveiro, financed by FCT (2024.02415.BD). In my work I explore the resistome of Fusarium species from different soils in Portugal (agricultural, industrial and urban). My interest lies on integrating environmental and clinical data, in a One Health understanding of how antifungal resistance arises and is mantained in this genus. Aside from my interest in mycology and antifungal resistance, bioinformatics analysis (with a focus on R as a tool for everything and anything biology-related) and science communication are passions I want to pursue within my possibilities. For science communication, my particular passion is the potential of comic books and graphic novels to intertwine metaphor, form and scientific rigor. In 2023 I finished a Master's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. In my thesis work, I had the opportunity to study gene expression changes during the aging of an environmentally relevant soil species (Enchytraeus crypticus), contributing to the incorporation of aging in an ecotoxicological perspective. During part of my MSc I upheld a research grant in a nanoinformatics project. During my bachelor (Biology) in the same university, I worked with soil ecotoxicology of nanomaterials with the same organism, from which resulted a publication in an indexed journal. I also had the opportunity to work with a project on the gut microbiome of aquaculture salmon in SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), Uppsala, Sweden, as a final traineeship project in the BSc.
