Ana Francisca Santos is a researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Coimbra, in the Research Unit ISISE - Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Engineering. She is also an active Board Member of the Research Unit, being responsible for all the activities related to the Science communication of the Institute. Since 2020, holds a double degree in Steel and composite structures at the University of Coimbra (UC) and in Civil Engineering, Building Engineering – Architecture, Environmental and Territorial Engineering at the University of Salerno (UNISA), Italy. The PhD thesis entitled "Behaviour of friction joints under impact loads" was supervised by Prof. Aldina Santiago (UC) and Prof. Gianvittorio Rizzano (UNISA), and awarded with Honour and Distinction. Participated in European RFCS projects FREEDAM, FAILNOMORE, FREEDAMplus and the National project FREEDAM. Currently, it is involved in the European projects DREAMERS and CONNECT4C and in the National project R2U. Participated in several National and International conferences, published 9 peer-reviewed papers and is co-author of two ECCS documents, FREEDAM-PLUS - Seismic design of steel structures with FREE from DAMage steel connections, 1st Edition, March 2022, ECCS (ISBN: 978-92-9147-182-9) and FAILNOMORE: Design recommendations against progressive collapse in steel and steel-concrete buildings, 1st Edition, December 2021, ECCS (ISBN: 978-92-9147-172-0). In 2020, participated in the consultancy work Collective Housing Benchmark study- Benchmark study on different structural materials for the residential market, with ARCELORMITTAL. Works actively as a lecturer at the UC in the scope of the MSc and PhD programmes in Steel and Composite Construction, teaching Seismic design, Advanced Project of Buildings II and Connections. She is also involved in the ECCS technical committee TC10 – Deformation of joints. The main research topics include the seismic, fire and robustness behaviour of steel and composite structures and connections.
