Inês Isabel Pires Serrenho

Inês Serrenho completed her Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology at the University of Évora in 2017, and her Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Coimbra in 2019. She performed her Master's Thesis Project, which focused on the role of host microRNAs on Staphylococcus aureus infection, at the "RNA & Infection Laboratory" under the scientific supervision of Drª Ana Eulálio. After defending her Master's Thesis, Inês decided to embark on a different challenge and joined the project "New Approaches on Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy: Translational Research to diagnose and Monitor Stem Cell Therapy" as an MSc Research Fellow, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Drª Graça Baltazar and Dr. Bruno Manadas. During the last three years, Inês successfully established the Rice-Vannucci in vivo model for neonatal HIE and implemented several behavioral tests to characterize better this model's motor and cognitive function, as well as optimized stem cell therapy protocols. Currently, Inês is a Ph.D. student in Biomedicine at the University of Beira Interior and received the FCT PhD Individual Fellowship in 2021 to continue to further explore this topic. Inês began collaborating with the European Animal Research Association in 2021, aiming to promote more open and transparent communication in animal research.
