Susana Salgado (PhD, 2007; Habilitation, 2022) is a political communication scholar. Currently Principal Researcher (CEEC Individual 3ª edição) at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa), she previously was FCT Research Fellow at ICS-ULisboa and also held positions at the University of Oxford, UK and at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Her publications include the books Mediated Campaigns and Populism in Europe (2019, Palgrave), and The Internet and Democracy Building in Lusophone African Countries (2014, Routledge) and the journal articles Never Say Never: Or the Value of Context in Political Communication Research (2019) and Where's populism? Online media and the diffusion of populist discourses and styles in Portugal (2019). The topics of her most recent research include populism, online hate, polarization, and disinformation.
