I concluded my master's degree in Applied Microbiology at Faculdade de Ciências of Universidade de Lisboa. For my master thesis, I got the opportunity to work at Faculdade de Farmácia of Universidade de Lisboa, in professor Elsa Anes' lab with the orientation of professor Maria João Catalão. In this thesis, I worked with Mycobacterium smegmatis and Tuberculosis to unravel more about beta-lactam susceptibility in these bacteria, thus the title being: "Reappraising the use of beta-lactam antibiotics against tuberculosis: study of genes associated with beta-lactam susceptibility in mycobacteria". Afterwards, I worked at GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals - Recipharm, as a Bioprocess Trainee where I learned about GMP procedures and regulations. Then, I worked at Asfertglobal as a Microbiology and Bioprocesses Researcher where I researched solutions for agriculture based on microorganisms. The most recent project in development included the Biofago project (ref. PRR-C05-i03-I-000179) for the development of a product with bacteriophages against Erwinia amylovora. The multitude of areas where I obtained knowledge, increasingly made me more interested in exploring more current technologies and solutions for various contemporary problems. Currently, I am a PhD student in Biology, specializing in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, supported by a PhD scholarship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). My PhD thesis theme revolves around plasmid-mediated antibiotic resistance of foodborne pathogens.
